QualificationsGed Laing is a former Police Officer with over 30 years experience of front line Policing in operational, managerial, training and staff development roles.

Now as an independent Personal Safety Trainer, Ged utilises proven skills, qualifications and real life experience to cater for the training needs of a wider audience.

Ged is married with three teenage children and resides in West Yorkshire.

Professional History

1975 - 2000

  • Sergeant in charge of the West Yorkshire Police Operational Firearms Response Team.
  • Charged with the operational response to the criminal use of firearms throughout West Yorkshire and beyond.
  • Responsible for the daily operational training, monitoring and evaluation of all other firearms officers under his command.

2000 - 2004

  • Responsible for the operational training and development of new probationary Police officers in the largest Division in West Yorkshire Police.
  • Responsible for administering the personal development portfolios of, at times, 96 officers.
  • Conducting the Continuous Personal Development method of staff appraisal for these and the teaching Officers under his command.

Qualifications

  • Nationally Qualified Teacher (certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Sector) (University of Huddersfield 2002)
  • Nationally Qualified Police Firearms Instructor
  • Nationally Qualified Police Firearms Tactical Advisor
  • Police trainer qualified (Law and Procedure)
  • NHS Trainer - Approved and registered by NHS Counter Fraud and Security managment Services as a provider of the approved ’Conflict Resolution Training‘ programme on a national basis.
